FarmzOnWheelz
Almost two years in development, the Ontario Farm Animal
Council’s (OFAC) new interactive exhibit, FarmzOnWheelz, was launched at the
Canadian National Exhibition in August, 2009. This 400-square-foot exhibit talks
to teenagers and their families about farm issues from animal welfare to food
safety to good nutrition to renewable energy.
FarmzOnWheelz, shows visitors that farmers are not Old
MacDonald!
The first of its kind, FarmzOnWheelz was designed and built by the
Ontario Science Centre, exhibit gurus with interactive science education. The
exhibit has solid content and delivery models. With the centre’s help,
FarmzOnWheelz will increase the awareness, understanding and acceptance of the
benefits, value, technologies and innovations in farming.
As visitors make their way through the 400 square foot
exhibit, they can explore the interactive components. From Farming Fuels the
Future to What’s for dinner?, visitors can experience for themselves how science
and technology impacts agriculture and their lives.
A new video, Know Farmers Know Food, is a special component of the exhibit. The
video showcases many aspects of Canadian farming and introduces its audience to
a number of farmers and farm families. It shows that farmers are modern,
innovative, and adaptive.
FarmzOnWheelz is a traveling exhibit with all components transported in a 20
foot cargo trailer. Exhibits roll out to set up the large, interactive exhibit.
Funding for this project was provided in part by Agriculture and Agri-Food
Canada through the Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development (CARD) Program. The
CARD Program is administered by the Agricultural Adaptation Council. Other
project sponsors include the Ontario Market Investment Fund and many industry
partners.
