Winners Announced
in Ontario Farm Animal Council’s Farm Creativity Contest
Nine winners have been chosen from
entries submitted by more than 300 young Ontario artists who competed in the
Ontario Farm Animal Council (OFAC)’s second annual creativity contest,
co-sponsored by the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Children from across
Ontario submitted their pictorial interpretations of farm animals, farmers
at work and activities such as harvesting crops or milking cows for the
chance to win computers, digital cameras and magazine subscriptions.
The
contest was open to children between the grades of junior kindergarten and
grade eight.
After
attending agricultural education programs in 2007 at events including the
Canadian National Exhibition, the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and others,
they were asked to submit a drawing and a written description on a postcard.
In the
category for children between the grades of Junior Kindergarten and Grade
Two, first prize was awarded to Morgan Loughlin of Enniskillen; second
prize to Abbey White of Stoney Creek and third prize to Mason Scott of
Brampton.
In the
Grades Three to Five category, Tommy Donell of Scarborough was the
winner, followed by Thomas Blaser of Metcalfe and Alyshia Laidlaw of
Brampton.
In the
Grades Six to Eight category, Vanessa MacDonald of North Bay placed
first, followed by Jessica Thomazi and Joshua Donell, both of Scarborough.
Plans
are underway to offer a similar contest in 2008. Watch the OFAC website (www.ofac.org)
in the coming months for more information.
