FarmzOnWheelz Hits the Road this week at the
Ex!
For immediate release
Guelph, ON, August 20, 2009 – (Guelph, ON) - Almost two years in
development, the Ontario Farm Animal Council’s (OFAC) new interactive exhibit,
FarmzOnWheelz, hits the road this week. Its first stop is the Canadian National
Exhibition (the EX). Beginning August 21st, FarmzOnWheelz will be featured daily
during exhibition hours. The $950,000 exhibit is the first of its kind in
Canada.
Designed and built by the Ontario Science Centre, FarmzOnWheelz will help
teenagers and their families get an up-close and personal look at what’s cool
about farming. As visitors make their way through the 400 square foot exhibit,
they can explore the interactive components. From Farming Fuels the Future to
What’s On Your Plate, visitors can experience for themselves how science and
technology impacts agriculture.
The CNE will also mark the official launch of the new Know Farmers Know Food
video, a special component of the exhibit. The video showcases many aspects of
Canadian farming and introduces its audience to a number of farmers and farm
families. OFAC’s exhibit is designed to increase awareness, understanding and
acceptance of the benefits, value, technologies and innovations in today’s
agricultural industry. FarmzOnWheelz will show visitors that farmers are modern,
innovative, and adaptive. Agriculture is fun and engaging and OFAC’s
FarmzOnWheelz reinforces that point.
Plan to visit this exciting new exhibit at this year’s Canadian National
Exhibition in the Better Living Centre. The Fair is open daily from August 21st
to September 7th. The EX is Canada’s largest annual fair, with more than one
million visitors each year.
Funding for the Farmz project was provided in part by Agriculture and Agri-Food
Canada through the Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development (CARD) Program. The
CARD Program is administered by the Agricultural Adaptation Council. Other
project sponsors include the Ontario Market Investment Fund and many industry
partners.
The Ontario Farm Animal Council is the voice for animal agriculture,
representing over 40,000 livestock and poultry farmers, associations and
businesses on issues in animal agriculture such as animal care, food safety,
biotechnology and the environment.
